JUST A THOUGHT. . .

When you find yourself spiraling downward. . .thinking negative thoughts about yourself, about others, about your job, about the world in general. . . you just might have a "rider" along that needs kicked out. The adversary is expert at his job of discouraging, frustrating, irritating, and working at defeating us. We need to recognize his presence and KICK HIM OUT!!! Command him to leave and he will!!

Well, we had a fun weekend with Nat and Wyatt, Amelia and Hans, and Kristy and her friend Tanner here...(wish Mil and Hans would have made it in time to join us on our ride!!) It's looking pretty doubtful that Silver's pregnant! DRAT!!

ANGER MANAGEMENT

Here are some tips to help each of us when faced with angry feelings:

1. I WILL BE QUICK TO SAY I'M SORRY AND I'LL BE SLOW TO GET ANGRY AND TAKE OFFENSE.

2. I WILL TALK ABOUT MY FEELINGS. EVEN WHEN IT IS DIFFICULT. RATHER THAN KEEP THEM INSIDE WHERE THEY CAN BUILD ANGER.

3. IF SOMEONE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHY I'M ANGRY, I WILL EXPLAIN THINGS CALMLY AND I WILL NOT VENT MY ANGER ON ANYONE ELSE.

4. I WILL REALIZE THAT EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES. MYSELF INCLUDED. I WILL NOT ALWAYS THINK I AM RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG.

5. I WILL LEARN TO GRACIOUSLY SAY, "YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT." – EVEN IF IM SURE THEY'RE NOT!

6. I WILL ACKNOWLEDGE THE PART I HAD IN DOING SOMETHING WRONG AND BE QUICK TO APOLOGIZE AND MAKE THINGS RIGHT.

7. WHEN SOMEONE HAS OFFENDED ME OR I HAVE BECOME ANGRY, I WILL BE QUICK TO FORGIVE THEM. EVEN IF I DON'T FEEL LIKE IT. I CANNOT AFFORD THE "LUXURY" OF ANGER.

8. IF I GET ANGRY ABOUT SOMETHING I WILL ALLOW MYSELF A FEW MINUTES TO CALM DOWN AND THEN I WILL APOLOGIZE AND/OR FORGIVE THE OTHER PERSON. I WILL NOT ALLOW MYSELF TO HOLD ONTO THE ANGER.

9. REMEMBER, HAVING A BAD ATTITUDE DOESN'T HELP MY ANGER, IT'S ONLY MORE FUEL FOR THE FIRE!

Mom's Moment

Mom's Moment - April 11, 2010
Last weekend was General Conference and each talk was excellent!

This weekend was our Stake Conference and there was MORE wonderful counsel. Here are some of my notes without a ton of the details.

Elder Sidarute (sp?), an area authority gave this counsel regarding making our homes a sanctuary from the world:

Be a good listener.

Give our TIME to our spouses and children. Time = love (remind me to post the poem "I Wish My Daddy Was A Dog")

Serve each other.

Affirm (look for) the good deeds of our family members.

Practice the principle of the Atonement. Forgive liberally; don't take offense

Do I want to be RIGHT, or do I want a good marriage?

I Wish My Daddy Was a Dog
by Elrod C. Leany

One day when Bruce was just a lad, first starting out in school,
He came into my workshop and climbed upon a stool.
I saw him as he entered but I hadn't time to play.
So I merely nodded to him and said, "Don't get in the way."

He sat awhile just thinking.... As quiet as could be,
Then carefully he got down and came and stood by me.
He said, "Old Shep, he never works and he has lots of fun.
He runs around the meadows and barks up at the sun.

"He chases after rabbits and always scares the cats
He likes to chew on old shoes and sometimes mother's hats.
But when we're tired of running and we're sitting on a log,
I sometimes get to thinking. . . 'I wish my daddy was a dog.'

" 'Cause then when I came home from school you'd run and lick my hand
And then we'd jump and holler and tumble in the sand
And then I'd be as happy as a little boy could be
If we could play the whole day through--just my dad and me.

"Now I know you have to work real hard to buy us food and clothes.
And you need to get the girls those fancy ribbons and bows.
But sometimes when I'm lonesome I think t'would be lots of fun,
If my daddy was a dog, and all his work was done."

Now when he'd finished speaking, he looked so lonely there,
I reached my hand out to him and ruffled up his hair.
And as I turned my head aside to brush away a tear,
I thought how nice it was to have my son so near.

I know the Lord didn't mean for man to toil his whole life through,
"Come on, my son I'm sure I have some time for you."
You should have seen the joy and sunlight in his eye,
As we went outside to play - just my son and I.

Now, as the years have swiftly flown and youth has slipped away,
I've tried always to remember to leave some time to play.

When I pause to reminisce and think of joys and strife,
I carefully turn the pages of this wanderer's book of life.
I find the richest entry recorded in that daily log,
Is the day that small boy whispered, "I wish my daddy was a dog."

April Fool's. . . The rest of the story...

Soooo, if you read about how I got pranked on April Fools with my friends taking Zoro from the corrals...intending to "surprise" me with him being found at a friend's house, but instead, my discovering him "missing" from the corrals, and being worried sick...

Turn about is always rather nice...especially if it "just happens!"

So, Friday morning (the day after April Fools Day), Celeste and April show up on my doorstep, bearing chocolate as a peace offering before we headed out on our planned horseback ride. It was rather funny, sweet, and willingly accepted by me!

We went up to Three Ponds (Snow Canyon), and the short version is, Zoro (Celeste rode him) and Brown Jug (April rode him) broke out of their bridles while tied to some trees (we were hiking around the ponds), and bolted down the canyon with their newly found freedom.

Poor Chip (whom I was riding) was left tied up, unable to get free, so he whinnied up a storm! We returned to find the two horses missing. So, guess who had to walk back all the way to the parking lot! It seemed like "just desserts" to me! ^_^

Thanks to Dallin driving the horse trailer to the Sand Dune Parking lot and intercepting the two runaways, we were able to finish our ride to the outside parking lot!
